Dermal Fillers

When we age, in conjunction with the loss of elasticity in the skin, we also lose volume in our facial fat pads.

Due to this, the facial features descend leading to a tired, sad, and saggy appearance over time. By administering dermal fillers in the areas of volume loss, rather than in the lines or folds, we can achieve a natural holistic rejuvenation.

We focus on restoring the face’s youthful proportions, strive to create a refreshed appearance, thus avoiding the fake or ‘pillow faced’ appearance unfortunately seen all too often with dermal fillers.

Here at our clinic, our ethos is to address the overall appearance of the face, reducing reduce the negative signs of ageing and improving the facial structure to look:

•  Less tired
•  Less saggy
•  Less angry

•  Younger
•  More attractive
•  More contoured

Dr. Martin Nimmo is one of the most highly sought after providers of dermal fillers in London, and his luxurious yet discreet clinic in the heart of Chelsea offers a safe and professional environment to embark upon your filler journey.

Treatment can be staged over a number of sessions in order for changes to be subtle, ensuring your friends, family and colleagues won’t notice that you have had any work undertaken.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body, identical across species.

So it attracts and binds water in the skin, therefore providing volume and hydration, but also ‘cushioning’ and supporting collagen and elastin fibres and providing a medium, or carrier, for chemical messages between the cells.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are manufactured, usually through fermentation and cross linking with proteins to produce a clear, sterile gel for injection into the skin.

Why we choose Juvéderm…

In the UK, there are over 160 brands on the market due in some part to weak regulation.

Not all hyaluronic acids are the same and each brand has a range of ‘tissue tailored’ products designed for specific results. So one size does not fit all.

Dr. Martin Nimmo uses the Vycross range of Juvederm dermal fillers as they have an excellent safety record and are comfortable to be injected, and produce long lasting natural results.

How long do Dermal Fillers last?

All longevity of dermal fillers will depend on the type, location and volume of dermal filler used. Typically results can range from 6-24 months.

In your consultation Dr. Martin Nimmo will outline the average duration of treatment for you concerns, and what the likely ongoing maintenance will require.

What Dermal Fillers do you use?

So we exclusively use the latest Juvéderm Vycross range of dermal fillers because Juvéderm (made by Allergan) is the world’s leading brand of hyaluronic fillers.

And the Vycross range provide 4 different fillers to treat all areas of the face. They have excellent long-lasting results (in some cases up to 24 months), and have an excellent safety record.

Dr. Martin Nimmo is one of a handful of providers in the UK to have been selected to be trained in the latest techniques and concepts with these products through the Allergan Medical Institute.

What is the aftercare following Dermal Fillers?

Most people are able to continue with normal activities with immediate improvement in their appearance. Some will have some redness, pin prick marks, possibly swelling- particularly in the lips. Possibly bruising.

However any swelling and bruising may be more apparent the next day.

Make-up should not be worn for 12 hours

You are advised to avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, sun bathing, and extremes of heat or cold for 14 days post treatment because these activities have been found to increase and prolong swelling.

Swelling may worsen in the first 24 hours, and then should settle within the first few days. Cold packs can be helpful in reducing swelling. And as a consequence of swelling, the product may feel harder or lumpy and you may notice some asymmetry. The final result may be judged at 2 weeks.

Bruising may take a few days to appear but arnica can be helpful in clearing bruising.  It is advisable to avoid aspirin and alcohol for 12-48 hours after treatment. Tenderness should settle as swelling goes down.

Athletes should be aware some ingredients in the product may show a positive in ‘anti-dope tests’

Therefore we would always advise all of our patients to contact the clinic in the very unlikely event redness, tenderness, itching or swelling worsens after 3 days, rather than settling.

Am I suitable for Dermal Fillers?

The vast majority of adults with volume loss will be suitable for treatment. The common areas to be treated are:

-Jawline and chin
-Tear troughs
-Hollow temples
-Bumps on nose
-Nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines)
-Marionette lines (corner of mouth to chin lines)

Our staff will always provide an in-depth consultation. Ensuring that your treatment is individualised for your specific concerns.

What are the risks of Dermal Fillers?

After dermal filler treatment, patients will typically experience a small degree of redness and swelling for 30-60 minutes after treatment and with the potential for mild tenderness in the treated sight for a couple of days.

In areas such as the lips and chin, it is likely the swelling and potential ‘stiffness’ can last up to 24-48 hours after treatment.

Occasionally, some patients will have a small localised bruises for a few days following treatment, however this can usually be covered with concealer if required.

Our team will explain all the pertinent and rare risks with you at your consultation to ensure you are fully informed prior to proceeding to treatment.
