Medical Microneedling

As we age, the skin can take on a dull appearance, and fine lines and wrinkles can start to become visible. This is, in part, due to the reduction in collagen production in the skin as the years go by.

Fortunately, there is a minimally invasive treatment to help re-boot collagen production, helping to tighten the skin and improve its radiance.

Microneedling offers unparalleled collagen induction by harnessing the body’s innate ability to re-grow and repair the skin as a response to micro-damage.  At Dr. Martin Nimmo Expert Aesthetics, we use the world’s leading, patented microneeedling device, Dermapen. This system is only used by specially trained medical and skin care professionals, putting your mind at ease that the treatment is safe and effective. Not only can it be used to treat specific skin concerns it also provides excellent enhancement and maintenance of other non-surgical skin treatments such as Botox and Dermal Peels.

The Dermapen can be used to treat:

•  Fine lines and wrinkles

•  Scarring and stretch marks

•  Skin rejuvenation

•  Enlarged pores

•  Rosacea

•  Acne

•  Pigmentation

Dermapen is not just for the face! It can also be used on the neck, décolletage, hands, and scars and stretch marks throughout the body.

In order to optimise the results of your Dermapen treatment, our expert practitioners concoct a bespoke mesotheapy blend of Dermaceutical products tailored to your desired outcomes. This allows Hyaluronic Acid and other active ingredients such as Vitamin A, Retinol, Antioxidants & Vitamin C to infuse into the deeper skin layers through the micro channels created through the microneedling. These active ingredients will enhance the skin and provide moisturisation, soothing, anti-wrinkle, rejuvenation and sebum balancing.

What is Microneedling?

Dermapen Medical Microneedling delivers up to 1,300 micro punctures to the skin per second, triggering the body’s response to micro-trauma, thus stimulating the production of collagen and elastin whilst normalising various skin functions.

Although this may sound painful, the procedure is actually relatively pain free with no need for topical anaesthesia. Most patients are back to their usual routine within 2 days of treatment.

What is the aftercare following Dermapen treatment?

Due to the healing process, it is normal to have a degree of redness for 1-2 days after treatment, and minor itching and flaking of the skin. The skin usually returns to normal 4-5 days following the procedure.

For at least 2 days before Dermapen treatment, please avoid:

  • Direct UV exposure (sun, solariums)
  • Intensive cardio or gym sessions
  • Excessively hot showers, baths, saunas or spas
  • Any other aesthetic clinical procedures
  • Spray or self-tanning
  • Swimming
  • Tattooing (including cosmetic tattooing)

Following Dermapen treatment, please avoid:

  • Direct UV exposure (sun, solariums) for 10 days if possible
  • The use of make-up for 24 hours
  • The use of alcohol based toners for 10-14 days
  • Intensive cardio or gym sessions for 5 days
  • Excessively hot showers, baths, saunas or spas for 5 days
  • Any other aesthetic clinical procedures for 2-4 weeks
  • Spray or self-tanning creams for 2-3 weeks
  • Swimming for 5 days
  • Tattooing (including cosmetic tattooing) for 14 days

However it is advisable to:

  • Drink planet of water following treatment
  • Use a physical defence sunscreen
  • Return to regular skin care after 2-3 days providing it is comfortable to do so
How many treatments do I need and how long do the results last for?

This largely depends on what condition you are having treated, and the severity of this condition. Broadly speaking, the best results are seen after 6-8 Dermapen sessions, with 6-8 weeks between each session. For scaring and stretch marks, up to 12 treatments may be required.

As the treatment relies on the body increasing collagen production as a response to injury, results are not immediate. You will likely start to see changes around 4-6 weeks post-treatment, and a gradual improvements throughout the course.

Once the course is completed, we recommend a maintenance treatment every 3-4 months.

Am I suitable for Medical Microneedling?

Most likely, yes. It is a fantastic treatment for ongoing rejuvenation and maintenance of skin health, as well as treating the specific concerns listed above.

There are some very specific conditions which would be a contraindication to treatment such as open lesions and active cold sores or skin cancer, but these would be identified at your consultation. It is also advised not have injectable treatments 2-4 weeks either side of the Dermapen treatment.

What is the cost of Dermapen treatment?
