Laser Hair Removal

Tired of waxing or shaving unwanted hair? Laser hair removal is a highly effective treatment to permanently and safely reduce the amount of stubborn unwanted hairs across the body and face.

Here at Dr Martin Nimmo Skin & Aesthetics, our state-of the-art Quanta Duetto system uses the latest advances in laser technology to deliver quick, effective and virtually pain free Laser Hair Removal treatment.

Unlike the majority of other systems which can deliver either one of the two laser wavelengths at any given time, our Quanta Duetto can use both simultaneously, making it suitable for all skin and hair types and particularly effective on stubborn or fine hair which other systems may struggle with.

Usually, only 6-10 treatments are required to achieve permanent removal. * Prices are per treatment area. If your area is not listed please let us know. A minimum of 6 sessions are recommended for best results

How does laser hair removal work?

Our advanced laser technology will target your hairs in their 3 growth stages – anagen, catagen and telogen. The anagen phase are when hairs are at their optimum stage for the laser system to be at its most effective due to the hairs still being attached to the blood supply and being at their most vulnerable. The pigment within the hair follicle absorbs the lasers heat which then effectively heats up the follicle causing the termination of the blood supply and follicle cells. This in-turn destroys further hair growth from occurring.

At Dr. Martin Nimmo Skin and Aesthetics, we treat virtually every area of the body. Some delicate areas such as the inner ear, inside the nostrils and over the nipple are not suitable for treatment however.

Am I suitable for Laser Hair Removal?

All skin types are suitable for Laser Hair Removal at Dr. Martin Nimmo Skin & Aesthetics with our system’s advanced technology. However, the hairs need to contain some pigment in order for them to be treated effectively. During your consultation we can determine whether your hairs are suitable for laser hair removal.

How many sessions will I require?

For optimal results a minimum course of 6 is required with maintenance treatments. After your 6th treatment a clinical assessment is carried out and a maintenance programme will be discussed. Treatment intervals times for body areas are between 6-8 weeks, and for facial areas 4-6 weeks.

How long will the treatment take?

A laser hair removal session can range from 15 – 90 minutes to dependant on the desired areas to be treated.

What are the risks?

There are minimal risks with laser hair removal.

Post-treatment the area will appear red, slightly swollen around the hair follicles and can feel warm to touch with mild itching.  These should subside within a few hours to 2days.

Laser vs IPL Hair Removal
A common question is whether someone should choose laser hair reduction or IPL hair removal treatments.

Laser hair reduction is far more effective and achieves superior results than IPL hair removal treatments. Lasers are more precise in producing a single wavelength of light, which is then concentrated to a specific target. On the other hand, IPL produces a broad spectrum of light that cannot be focused at one specific target making it less effective and more painful.

Due to the range of wavelengths produced with IPL, only a few wavelengths reaching the intended target. With laser hair reduction all the energy is targeted in one wavelength at the target ensuring better hair removal treatment, fewer appointments and faster more comfortable treatments.

As laser is directed purely at the hair follicle there is much less risk of skin damage when choosing to reduce body hair, and allows for all skin types to be treated. As IPL is multi-directional only lighter skin types can be treated.
